8 Things to do in Spring Hill, Brisbane (From a Local)

Spring Hill is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Brisbane. Located just north of Brisbane CBD, there are plenty of things to do in Spring Hill.
Besides the historically landmarked buildings, there is plenty of green space in Spring Hill with Victoria Park and Roma Street Parkland. Tours of Spring Hill are available for those who want to learn more about the history of this neighborhood that was once the source of the city’s drinking water.
For the first few years of our time in Brisbane, we lived near the border of Spring Hill. My kids went to school in Spring Hill. Though we no longer live in the neighborhood, we are not far away, and we spend a lot of time in Spring Hill.
Whether you want to spend the day indoors or outside, there are plenty of fun things to do in Spring Hill, Brisbane.

Things to do in Spring Hill, Brisbane
Go for a Swim
Located between Roma Street Parkland and Victoria Park are the Spring Hill Baths, the oldest public baths in Queensland.
The Spring Hill Baths were Brisbane’s first in-ground swimming pool. Today, there is a 25-meter heated pool with swim lessons, swim squads, and group fitness classes, plus a changing area and grandstand seating.
Single-entry and multi-entry tickets are available for purchase.
For those who would rather swim outside, head to Centenary Aquatic Centre. The Centenary Aquatic Centre has a 50-meter pool, a kids’ pool, a heated rehab pool, and a diving platform.
Just like at the Spring Hill Baths, swim lessons, swim squads, and group fitness classes are offered at Centenary Aquatic Centre. There are changing rooms, a cafe, and grandstand seating.
Explore the Gardens

On the border of Spring Hill and Brisbane City lies Roma Street Parkland. With a rainforest walk, gardens, and lots of room to run, Roma Street Parkland is a great place to spend a few hours.
Free tours are offered at Roma Street Parkland, and free kids’ activities take place during school holidays. Each month, there is a free concert in Roma Street Parkland.

Play in the Park

Victoria Park is large, but a section of it is in Spring Hill near the Centenary Aquatic Centre.
There is a playground in this section of Victoria Park, as well as walking and bicycle trails, a dog park, and tennis courts.
See an Opera Underground

Head to the theatre in an unusual setting with the Underground Opera Company. This theatre company performs at the Spring Hill Reservoir, 6 meters underground.
Not all of the events are operas, as musical theatre and comedy are performed through the Underground Opera Company as well.
They don’t have events often, so book as soon as you find one you are interested in.
Solve puzzles and Escape from an Escape Room
Get a group together and choose a themed room to “escape” from. While all ages are allowed into the 4 different themed rooms at Arcadium Adventures, they suggest everyone be 10+ to enjoy the room.
All ages are also allowed into 2 of the 4 rooms at Quest Room, while one of their rooms is for 15+ and the other is for adults only.

View the Old Windmill Observatory

Built by convict labor in the early 1800s, the Old Windmill in Spring Hill is the oldest surviving building in Queensland.
The Old Windmill is located in Observatory Park on the southern edge of Spring Hill in Brisbane.

Mayfield Chocolate has been around for about 25 years, and its chocolates are made in Brisbane using many Australian ingredients.

Inchcolm by Ovolo is a trendy hotel filled with eclectic art and furniture. The facade of the Inchcolm by Ovolo is from the 1920s, and the hotel focuses on art elements from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. They even have a martini hour daily with 5 martinis to choose from.
There is a bar and restaurant at Inchcolm by Ovolo, and a high tea service.

Walking distance to Brisbane City, Soho Brisbane is an affordable hotel option in Spring Hill.
Spring Hill Wrap-Up
Spring Hill is an inner Brisbane suburb close to the Brisbane CBD, but you wouldn’t know it by walking the residential streets and enjoying all of the parks that Spring Hill has to offer.
With plenty of unique restaurant options and peaceful green spaces, Spring Hill is worth a visit.
