Hi, I am Lanie!

My family and I moved to Australia in October 2020.

I was born and raised in Florida and attended Florida State University before moving to Brooklyn, New York where I taught special education.

During my summers off, I started to travel the world. That first summer I actually went to Australia and New Zealand with my sister. I had no idea that my future husband, whom I would meet while traveling through Europe 4 summers later, was Australian.

From moving to New York City and traveling throughout the States and the world, I had a lot of adventures.

My daughter was born in Brooklyn in 2014, and we moved back to Florida, where my son was born in 2015. While raising them has been an adventure in itself, I missed traveling.

While I started Make More Adventures as a way to document our time in Australia, now that we have been here for more than 5 years, it has grown to be so much more!

I love sharing travel tips and advice on locations that my family has visited.

As someone who has traveled to over 60 countries, 48 US states (unless airports count, in which case, all 50), and every Australian state, it is clear that I enjoy traveling and adventure.

I want to share my experiences with others so that you can get the most out of traveling as a family, or even just making the most of where in the world you live. We love discovering new things near the places we live.

🌍 Austria: Vienna, Innsbruck

🌎 Barbados, where we drove around the island

🌍 Belgium, mainly Brussels

🌎 Belize, including Caye Caulker (which is stunning), Belize City (which is not), and San Ignacio.

🌍 Bosnia and Herzegovina on a day trip, mainly in Mostar

🌎 Brazil to visit a friend in São Paulo

🌏 Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap

🌎 Canada: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec

🌏 China: Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, commuting on overnight trains and quick flights. Also, Hong Kong and Macau.

🌎 Costa Rica: San Jose, La Fortuna, Monteverde

🌍 Croatia, because my friend read that it was the best place to meet your match. We stayed in Dubrovnik and took a few day trips. For the first couple of days, we lived an hour off the actual time as our phones didn’t update after the flight from London.

🌍 Cyprus (though to be fair, this was just a transfer from the airport to a boat).

🌍 Czech Republic: Prague twice

🌍 Denmark: Copenhagen, and also Greenland (which feels like it should count as its own country). We honeymooned in Greenland, cruising from Nuuk to Ilulissat with a stop in between.

🌎 Dominican Republic: Mainly Santo Domingo with a few day trips

🌍 Egypt (for about 4 hours, where I enjoyed a drink after walking across the border from Israel)

🌎 El Salvador, because of the song by The Athletes

🌍 Estonia: Tallinn for the day

🌏 Fiji along the Coral Coast on the main island of Viti Levu

🌍 Finland-Helsinki

🌍 France: mainly Paris, but also a drive in the South of France

🌍 Germany: Berlin, and the Hamburg Airport (my first overseas airport experience)

🌍 Greece, mainland including Athens, Delphi, Corfu, and Olympia, as well as the island of Mykonos

🌎 Guatemala: Antigua, Lake Atitlán

🌍 Hungary, Budapest twice, as well as a few day trips

🌍 Iceland twice. Once with friends and again on my honeymoon as we were flying to Greenland.

🌍 Israel twice, once with my family and once with NFTY. Jerusalem, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Eilat, hiking through the Negev.

🌍 Jamaica, after a school trip I was chaperoning got canceled, I ended up going with my family to Montego Bay

🌍 Latvia: Riga, a city where my family is from, as well as where I met my husband
