Fig Tree Walk with Kids
Fig Tree Walk on the Sunshine Coast was the perfect hike to do with our kids. My kids are not the best walkers, much less hikers.
If you are looking for an easy hike to do with kids (or without kids), check out Fig Tree Walk in Imbil State Forest on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
It is flat, not far, and scenic. That is everything we look for in a kid-friendly hike.
Fig Tree Walk

Fig Tree Walk is an easy hike located in Imbil State Forest near Kenilworth on the Sunshine Coast. We completed the hike during Queensland’s summer, which is usually extremely hot during the day.
The walk is entirely shaded, except for crossing a bridge from the parking area to the start of the walk.
We arrived at 9 am, and there wasn’t a single other car in the car park, nor did we see anyone else the whole time that we were there.
The sign says that the walk is 1100 meters long, which is about .7 of a mile. The walk is paved, and some of it is on a boardwalk. It is mostly flat.
Wildlife on our Sunshine Coast Hike with Kids

There were quite a few signs along the way explaining the wildlife. The kids were interested in the spiky leaves of the giant stinging tree that they couldn’t touch. To be safe, they avoided all of the leaves. We didn’t see any birds or many bugs, but we heard them.
It took us about half an hour to slowly complete the circuit, which included reading every sign.
When I hear fig trees, I always think of fruit, but these are different types of trees. We saw a couple of them on our walk, and they are gigantic and beautiful.
Fun Things to Do with Kids Near Fig Tree Walk

On the way there, we passed Kenilworth Dairy and decided to stop there on the way back.
The kids were happy to see a large playground across the street, so we headed there first. They had a zipline as well as a variety of climbing areas and even a digger for Z to scoop up dirt.
They didn’t want to take a snack break, but it was way too hot to keep playing.
The park was partially shaded, but by the time we sat down and the kids took their hats off, their hair was soaked, and their faces were bright red.
The sign advertises free samples, but they are not giving them out right now, so we decided to order the $20 fruit and cheese platter for 2. It was a good size, and we all happily dug in. While I took the picture right away, the kids were still able to pull some fruit out before I could snap the picture.

Our original plan included stopping to swim on the way back home, but apparently, it is the wrong season for swimming in water holes and rivers here. I did not check the website before going, but I now see that there is an alert for low water in the creek. Thankfully, a neighbor invited us over to swim when she saw us getting out of the car. It was another hot day in Queensland!
There are a few longer hikes in the area, but Fig Tree Walk was perfect for us.
