Mount Gravatt Lookout

Mount Gravatt is just a short drive from Brisbane City. The summit and lookout can be reached by car or by hiking from the nearby Toohey Mountain Reserve or the Griffith University Campus.
At the top of Mount Gravatt, there is a parking lot. In addition to the lookout, which includes free use of binoculars, there is a playground, cafe, picnic tables, and toilets.

Near the parking lot is the Lovewell cafe, which has both indoor and outdoor seating. Lovewell is open daily for breakfast and lunch, and their menu changes seasonally.

Hiking Mount Gravatt

Look at a map of Toohey Forest and Mount Gravatt to plan out your hike. The hikes vary from 130 meters long to 3.5 kilometers long.
For those who would rather hike up to the top, Summit Track leaves from Gertrude Petty Place and leads to the Mount Gravatt Lookout. Summit Track is 1.2 kilometers long and takes about 40 minutes to hike.
We chose to park at the top of the summit and walk the trail down before returning up to the car park. While we were alone most of the time, lots of hikers, many with dogs, walked past us. Our hike occurred early on a Sunday morning.
The path from the parking lot is shaded and includes stairs.
Animals on Mount Gravatt

A variety of wildlife can be seen on Mount Gravatt, including wallabies, echidnas, possums, flying foxes, kookaburras, rainbow lorikeets, and koalas.
From the parking lot at the top of Mount Gravatt, we could hear the laughing kookaburras.
We hiked for a short time, but we spotted a koala high in a tree. Other hikers made us aware of where the koala was and told us that the tree was marked with arrows in the dirt in both directions. That advice helped us to spot the koala.
Fairy Door on Mount Gravatt

Not only is there a fairy door on a tree near the Mount Gravatt summit, but the door opens, and treasures are kept inside.
If you are interested in the back story of the fairy door on Mount Gravatt, read here.
Our kids spotted the fairy door while walking back to the car park at the top of Mount Gravatt, but if you are hiking down from the car park, it is at the bottom of the stairs on the right, about 300 meters down. For those walking up, it is on the left, right before the stairs.
