After debating The Staging Post, Longreach Motor Inn, and Mitchell Grass Retreat, our family’s top 3 options in Longreach, we opted to stay at The Staging Post.

Originally, my husband chose Longreach Motor Inn as it is budget-friendly, has a pool, and is within walking distance from the train, which is how we arrived in Longreach.
After seeing The Staging Post, I wanted to stay there for its location in town as well as its boutique hotel feel. The rooms and the exterior of the hotel looked like a fun place to stay.
We talked about adding on a few nights at Mitchell Grass Retreat as we love camping and glamping, but in the end, we decided there wasn’t enough to do in Longreach to merit a longer stay. Of course, we could have stayed there the entire time, but opted to stay closer to town.
Also, while our kids would most likely have loved sleeping in swags at Mitchell Grass Retreat, we weren’t sure exactly how that would go and if they would want to be in a bed.
It was hot during our trip to Longreach, and while the kids would have loved a pool, which all of the other hotels on this list have, we didn’t miss having a pool by staying at The Staging Post. There is a pool in town for those who want to swim but don’t end up staying at a hotel with a pool in Longreach.
