Cobb and Co Stagecoach Experience Longreach
Go back in time and experience a Cobb and Co Stagecoach ride during your visit to Longreach in Outback Queensland.
Outback Pioneers offer a 45-minute-long Cobb and Co Stagecoach ride, and it is the only stagecoach ride in Australia where the horses gallop!
There is more to the tour than the stagecoach ride. Morning tea is included, as is a classic bush movie and possibly a live Old Time Tent Show with an optional billy can lunch.
Keep reading to find out more about the Cobb and Co Stagecoach Experience, as well as what happens during the rest of the morning on this unique tour in Longreach.

Cobb and Co Stagecoach Ride

A maximum of 12 guests can join the Cobb and Co Stagecoach, so be sure to book your tickets in advance. We happened to join the very first stagecoach ride of the season, which took place at the end of March.
After everyone is checked in, you are brought back to the stagecoach. The area is filled with antiques, which you can look at after the tour.
Each group is brought in front of one of the stage coaches for a photo before they sit down in the bleachers to hear about the ride.
Three people can ride on top of the stagecoach, so be quick if you would like to sit on top. Of course, my kids raised their hands quickly, and they were able to sit at the top of the stagecoach with their dad.
An older man had raised his hand, and he was offered a seat at the front of the stagecoach.
I wouldn’t have felt comfortable having my kids up there without a parent, and anyone who sits on the top of the stagecoach needs to be able to climb up and down.
Each person is given disposable headphones and a speaker to put around their neck. The driver talks throughout the ride, and everyone can hear him through their headphones.
On Board the Cobb and Co. Stagecoach

Our tour wasn’t full, so there was plenty of space inside the stagecoach. I sat in the back row facing forward. If you want to face forward, be one of the first people to board.
There are 3 rows inside the stagecoach. Each row fits 3 people.
The stagecoach goes through town before walking and then galloping through a path in a field.
We were told to wear jeans as we would get dusty, and they weren’t wrong! Though I was inside the stagecoach, dirt did fly up while the horses were galloping.
I wasn’t so dirty that I needed to change, but I wouldn’t wear nice clothes on the Cobb and Co Stagecoach.
The stagecoach takes you back through town before arriving back where it started.
A sunset Cobb and Co Stagecoach ride is also available. This tour includes snacks while you enjoy the sunset from the Outback and then a 2-course dinner in Longreach.
Smoko Morning Tea

The other people in our group only signed up for the stagecoach ride, so we were the only ones at morning tea.
In the Outback, morning tea is referred to as a “smoko,” and never having heard that before, I was curious about what we signed up for. Thankfully, it was a delicious morning tea and had nothing to do with smoking.
After the stagecoach ride, we learned a little bit more about Cobb and Co. before heading into the restaurant.
We were offered coffee or tea, and large scones were served with butter, jam, and cream.
As we had not expected morning tea, we weren’t hungry, though, of course, we happily ate the delicious scones. We were offered more scones, which we turned down.
Classic Bush Movie

We had some time between our smoko and the movie, so we wandered into The Station Store for a while before entering the theatre.
The seats in the theatre are retro cinema seats.
The movie is a classic bush movie, “Smiley Gets a Gun.” We didn’t know what to expect and didn’t realize it would be a full-length movie.
Smiley Gets a Gun is a 90-minute-long comedy-drama from 1958.
Everyone in our group enjoyed the movie. It is also available for purchase at the shop near the check-in desk at the Staging Post Hotel.
Old Time Tent Show and a Billy Can Lunch

The last part of the Cobb and Co Stagecoach Experience is an Old Time Tent Show with an optional billy can lunch.
We were contacted a few days before our tour and told that the Old Time Tent Show would not be running. We were refunded for that portion of the tour.
I am not sure if it wasn’t running just that week or if you shouldn’t expect to attend the Old Time Tent Show during your Cobb and Co Stagecoach Experience.
A few things haven’t returned since 2020, including taking old-fashioned pictures in costumes on the tour.
We hadn’t purchased the Billy Can lunch, though that would have been another unique experience to have in Longreach. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.
Cobb and Co Stagecoach Experience Wrap-Up

If you are looking for a unique way to spend a morning in Longreach, sign up for the Cobb and Co Stagecoach Experience.
Depending on your tour time, there could be some downtime between events, though there are shops to wander through while you wait.
The Cobb and Co Stagecoach ride was unique among any of the horse and buggy rides we have ever been on; the smoko was delicious, and the movie had us all laughing.
