Robinson Crusoe Fiji Culture Day Tour with Kids Review
Are you looking to see what to expect during the Fiji Culture Day Tour to Robinson Crusoe Resort on Likuri Island with kids?
My family participated in the Fiji Culture Day Tour through Robinson Crusoe during our stay in Fiji. Both adults and kids had a fun and relaxed day outside in the fresh air, learning about Fijian life.
Keep reading to find out what we did during our Robinson Crusoe Island tour, so you know what to expect when you book.

Arriving at the Dock
Robinson Crusoe Island Tours will pick you up at your hotel. We stayed at the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa. The Intercontinental is just down the road from the dock to Robinson Crusoe Island, and we had a rental car, so we drove to the jetty.
We arrived before the buses, and there were just a few parking spots in a dirt parking lot.
There are bathrooms located by the dock.
A few puppies were greeting the guests as they arrived. A few bench seats are available to sit on, and there is a very casual check-in desk.
As soon as the buses arrived, everyone boarded the boat, and we took off a couple of minutes before the tour was set to begin.
Riverboat Ride

The Riverboat to Robinson Crusoe Island has bench seating. To avoid the sun, sit on the inner seats.
Our boat ride lasted about 40 minutes, and the speed was slow as we rode down the Tuva River.

It is easy to see when the river becomes the ocean as the color changes.

Arriving at Robinson Crusoe Resort on Likuri Island

A welcome song was played as our boat arrived at Likuri Island for the Robinson Crusoe Fiji Cultural Full Day Tour.
Everyone made their way up the beach to the picnic tables, where we were welcomed and heard information about the island and the day’s schedule.
The schedule is written on a chalkboard near the picnic tables so guests can view it all day.
Guests are welcome to participate in any of the activities throughout the day, but are not required to. Island options are available, in addition to relaxing on the beach.

A coffee and tea bar is set up for guests to help themselves throughout the day. In addition to the tea and coffee, a bar is located by the picnic tables, and guests can order drinks throughout the day.
Unlimited beer, wine, juice, and soda are available for most of the day, and cocktails are available for an additional cost. Food can also be purchased at the bar.

Island Options During Downtime
The Robinson Crusoe Cultural Day Tour Schedule is pretty full for those who want to try it all as we do, but there is a half-hour here and there for swimming and beach activities.
Swimming in the Pool

The pool is available to day guests, and that is the first place my kids wanted to go.
There is a bucket to stand in to get the sand off your feet before getting into the pool. The pool is separated into 2 sections. The smaller section has a roof for shade, while the larger pool does not.
Change rooms and bathrooms are located near the pool.
Swimming in the Ocean

Swimming or snorkeling on your own in the ocean is also an option. Snorkel gear is handed out at the beginning of the day for those who are participating.
After the boat returns from snorkeling, guests can return their gear or keep it and snorkel in the water surrounding the island.
Kayaking and SUP

Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for guests to use throughout the day.
Our family had never tried a SUP before, and we all wanted to have a go. While it was a little bit scary for me, I was able to stand up, and I did not fall over.
The water is smooth near the island, and we even let the kids kayak on their own for the first time.

Relaxing on a Hammock

My number one choice for downtime is always relaxing in a hammock. It doesn’t happen often, but there were a few minutes when I got to relax while one kid snorkeled with her dad and the other kid tried to break open coconuts with a friend he met who was staying on the island.
A few hammocks are set up in the shade, and anyone is welcome to lie down in them.

Snorkeling

The first option of the day is snorkeling.
One kid wanted to snorkel, and the other did not. Usually, we would have all gone, but as I didn’t mind seeing the coconut demo, I opted to stay back on the island.
Fins and snorkels are handed out at the beginning of the day, and then, when it is time, they announce that anyone who wants to snorkel should board the boat.
They don’t go too far from the island, as there is a coral reef nearby.
Coconut Demo and Ceviche Making

Those who choose not to snorkel can attend the coconut demonstration.
We were taught how to open a coconut and then how to shred coconut. The kids were offered coconut water to drink.

After the coconut was shredded, we watched a ceviche-making demonstration. Fresh fish was marinated in lime before the demo, and then he added coconut cream and vegetables. Usually, they would add chilies, but they kept them out in case the kids wanted to eat the ceviche.
My kid opted not to eat the ceviche, but I ate it, and it was delicious.
We both ate the coconut straight from the shell.

Lovo Oven and Fire Walking

Part of the lunch is cooked in a Lovo Oven, an underground oven used in Fijian villages on special occasions.
The group gathered around to see the layers of the Lovo Oven.
After putting the food into bowls to serve at lunch, some of the men walked on the coals.

Robinson Crusoe Day Tour Lunch and a Show

Lunch is served buffet style, and guests are welcome to come back for seconds.
The Robinson Crusoe Fijian Culture Day Tour lunch buffet included rolls with butter, rice with veggies, baked potatoes, cassava, pasta salad, cole slaw, garden salad, chicken, and fish.

The bar is open, and water, juice, beer, and wine are included. Additional drinks can be purchased.
Once everyone is sitting down and finishing their meals, there is a performance of traditional Fijian dancing, fire dancing, and knife dancing.

After lunch and the dancing, there is a bit of free time. Most of the group used this time to kayak and stand-up paddleboard.
Nature Walk

While we wanted to continue to swim, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard, the kids were interested in the Nature Walk, so we got out of the water for the last time during our day tour.
A guide takes you on a slow-paced walk along the trail past some of the accommodations at Likuri Island Resort, stopping to point out plants that are used in Fiji to heal wounds and ailments.
Weaving Lesson

Immediately after the nature walk, guests are welcome to join a weaving lesson where they weave a basket.
The baskets are made from palm fronds.
We understood the first few steps for weaving, but everyone needed help to finish their baskets. The guides make it look easy.

Everyone takes their basket with them in the end. You can take them home on the plane if they are dry.
As we were leaving the next day to go to Vanuatu for a few days before returning to Australia, we left our basket in Fiji, though I would have loved this basket as a souvenir.
One of the men made the kids’ toys from the leaves. One kid received a fish, and the other got a bird.

Crab Racing

We saw hermit crabs all over Fiji. The kids loved seeing the different-sized shells that each hermit crab chose as its home.
After the weaving lesson, a pole with numbered stickers on it is placed by the picnic tables. Each person picks a number that matches up to a hermit crab.
A circle is drawn in the sand. The first 3 hermit crabs to get out of the circle win.
The 3 winners receive a mocktail.

Bula Dance
At the end of the day, with Robinson Crusoe Fijian Cultural Day Tours, guests are taught a Bula Dance.
Basically a line dance, we participated in the Bula Dance to the best of our abilities before boarding the boat and heading back down the river to the jetty.
Buses were waiting for the guests, and everyone was driven back to their resorts.

Robinson Crusoe Day Tour in Fiji Wrap-Up
In the end, we chose to only participate in one day tour during our trip to Fiji and spend the rest of our time exploring the island on our own and relaxing at our resort.
I was a little bit skeptical at the beginning of the tour when we arrived at a small dirt parking lot, but the Robinson Crusoe Fijian Cultural Day Tour exceeded my expectations.
In a short period of time, we were able to relax, learn, and participate in many different aspects of Fijian life.
Everyone on the island was helpful and kind.
The only thing I would change is that I would have booked this tour earlier in our holiday so that we could take home the basket as a souvenir from Fiji.
If you are thinking about taking a Robinson Crusoe Day Tour during your holiday in Fiji, hopefully, this review helped you with your final decision. Just make sure to book it at the front end of your holiday.
More Fun Day Tour Options in Fiji
There are so many options for day tours in Fiji, it is hard to know which one to choose! We enjoyed our time with Robinson Crusoe Island Tours, and it was the only tour we participated in during this trip to Fiji.
Eco-Trax was sold out on the dates we were in Fiji, and in the end, it was rained out.
Here are a few other options we considered.
- River Tubing Fiji
- South Sea Island Day Cruise
- Authentic Fijian Day Cruise
- Fiji Combo Day Tour
- Robinson Crusoe Sunset Cruise, Dinner, and Cultural Show
