Visit the Cunnamulla Hot Springs

The Cunnamulla Hot Springs, located along the river, has a set of seven thermal pools, a cold plunge, a sauna, a steam room, and a relaxation room.
We spent the day moving from hot pool to hot pool during the winter, leaving for lunch in town, and returning after for more time at the springs.
Most of the pools are outside, but there is one inside as well.
Surprisingly, we even ran into someone we knew! I guess Cunnamulla isn’t the secret place I thought it was.
Watch a Movie at the Train Station

Cunnamulla All-Aboard is a sound and light show set up at the train station.
Rows of comfortable lounge chairs are set in front of a large screen, and once a day, a movie about the town of Cunnamulla is played.
Though we found the screening time of 3:30 pm to be a bit odd, my whole family enjoyed the movie and were glad that we made it to Cunnamulla in time to watch the show.
While it is not like a typical movie theatre, they do have a concession stand available.
Take Pictures with the Cunnamulla Sign

We love taking photos with signs saying where we are, and the Cunnamulla sign was fun for the kids to climb.
Sit By the Fire and Roast Marshmallows

If you are staying at a campground, the best thing to do with kids or without is sit by the fire.
It happened to be chilly at night when we were in Cunnamulla, and we spent hours by the fire chatting to the other campers and roasting marshmallows.
Enjoy the Warrego River

Complete the Warrego River Walk, go kayaking, or catch a fish.
We stayed at the Warrego Riverside Tourist Park, slightly out of town, but along the river.
Admire Local Art

Follow the Cunnamulla Art and Sculpture Trail to see a variety of art along the streets of Cunnamulla.
If you are interested in murals, be sure to check out Cunnamulla Art Alleyway on Stockyard Street.
Discover the Cunnamulla Heritage Trail
Ask the visitor centre for details, or walk the trail on your own and scan the QR codes for more details as you go.
Visit the Cunnamulla Fella

Located in front of Paroo Shire Hall is a large bronze statue of Cunnamulla Fella, a character from a song written by Stan Coster and sung by Slim Dusty.
Enjoy Pub Food and Live Music

From Monday to Saturday nights from March to October, there is live music nightly at Club Boutique Hotel Cunnamulla.
Club Boutique Hotel Cunnamulla has both hotel rooms and glamping sites. We did not stay here, but we enjoyed a pub meal and a show.
From May to September, they offer a campfire dinner and show each Sunday at 6 pm. Be sure to reserve your spot by 2 pm, and note that they offer pick-up and drop-off for guests not staying at their hotel.
Go Sandboarding
Go sandboarding down the dunes in Cunnamulla.
Relax

In addition to the hot springs, sauna, and steam room, the Cunnamulla Hot Springs has a relaxation room.
Kids are welcome, so long as they do not disturb the other guests. Mine were happy to lie around, drink tea, and read their books.
Enjoy a Cunnamulla Bushland Walk
Cunnamulla Conservation Bushlands is a great place to have a picnic and walk along the paths.
Visit Cunnamulla Time Tunnel, Museum, and Art Gallery
Located at the visitor’s centre are the Cunnamulla time tunnel, museum, and art gallery, where you can learn about the history and culture of the area.
Explore Charlotte Plains

About 30 minutes east of Cunnamulla is Charlotte Plains, an outback campground with natural hot springs and unique photo opportunities.
We stopped at Charlotte Plains to enjoy the hot springs for a bit, and now we are planning a camping trip with friends.
Charlotte Plains is remote, but they offer a lot to do on their property, including live music, property tours, kayaking, and yabby delving.
They even host a 3-day music festival, Stars of Charlotte Plains.
If you do not have an RV, camper, or tent and still want to stay at Charlotte Plains, they have accommodations on-site.
Day Trip to Eulo
Another great option for a day trip from Cunnamulla is Eulo, about a 45-minute drive west of Cunnamulla.
Stop at the Artisan mud baths, and the mud springs, and walk along the heritage trail before returning to Cunnamulla.
Drive Further to Yowah
If visiting artisan pools interests you, another option from Cunnamulla is a day trip to Yowah, which takes you past Eulo and is about an hour and 45 minutes’ drive from Cunnamulla.
Not only does Yowah have artisan pools, but they also have fossicking for opals.
Visit During the Cunnamulla Fella Roundup and Outback River Lights Festival
The Outback River Lights Festival is filled with live performances, competitions, workshops, food, and cultural experiences.
The Outback River Lights Festival takes place in autumn, while the Cunnamulla Fella Roundup takes place in the spring.
The Cunnamulla Fella Roundup is a true Outback experience with a rodeo, live entertainment, and Outback-inspired food.

We camped at a powered site at Warrego Riverside Tourist Park.

Cunnamulla with Kids Wrap-Up
While I had never even heard of Cunnamulla until recently, it makes for a surprisingly great family-friendly holiday, especially when added to other outback Queensland towns.
The main attraction in Cunnamulla is the hot springs, but there are a lot more things to do in this charming town.
Make sure to watch the movie about the town, walk along the Warrego River, check out local art, and eat delicious food during your time in Cunnamulla.
If you have time, explore the towns nearby.
