Brisbane is close to the beach and the mountains. While the Gold Coast Beaches and the Sunshine Coast Beaches aren’t too far away, sometimes you just want to stay close to home.

Wellington Point Beach is close to Brisbane and perfect for a day out with kids.

With a playground, close parking, and gentle water, Wellington Point Beach makes for a fun and easy beach day for families.

Wellington Point Beach near Brisbane

Wellington Point Beach is about 40 minutes outside of Brisbane.

While I did not find Wellington Point Beach to be an especially pretty beach, it is a nice place for small children. It is a very small beach without waves, and it even has a playground.

Plus, Wellington Point Beach has natural shade from the trees, which is perfect for families like us who don’t have an umbrella to sit under.

The parking lot was very full at around 9 am on a summer Sunday morning, but the beach area wasn’t too crowded.

People were kayaking and paddleboarding.

There is just a small area of sand, with grass and trees behind it. We set up under the trees for shade, but due to the small hill, we were unable to see the children playing by the water.

There is a lifeguard on duty, but of course, watch your children.

The playground is close to the whole length of the beach. There are a few large trees, perfect for climbing.

Wellington Point Beach has a bathroom right there as well, as well as a restaurant, and it is just a short drive to a street filled with restaurants.

We plan to go back, as it seems to be the closest beach, besides the “beach” in the city, at Brisbane’s Southbank.

At low tide, you can walk to an island, and we ended up doing that walk a few years after our first visit.
